Worshipping Together In-Person Resumes June 7!!!!

Worship service will begin at 11 a.m. (Doors open at 10:30) Only the main Sanctuary door will be unlocked. Please limit visits to other areas of the building.

If you are feeling ill, or have a compromised immune system please stay home and join us later via video.

Our plans for Re-Opening

  • Cautious… it's not over yet!
  • Considerate… Giving grace to each other.
  • Compassionate… Being a shining example of passionate prayer and prayerful ministry!

We will be practicing and encouraging social distancing. That means our seating capacity has been reduced to less than half of normal. If there is sufficient demand, we'll add a second service in subsequent weeks. Services will be video recorded and made available through links on this website by 5 p.m. on Sundays. Streaming a quality broadcast requires some very expensive equipment (most of which is backordered) and experienced volunteers. Wearing of face masks is a personal choice. We would ask that you be gracious to those whose choice is different than yours.

In-person Sunday morning Bible studies, and GriefShare® are in the second phase of our re-opening plan, with no date set at this time for allowing these activities. Some Bible studies (Jessica Boucher's Thursday Ladies Bible Study and Debbie Robinson's Sunday School class) are meeting via Zoom. Brenda Hogarth's Ladies Class has also been meeting at a distance. Contact them for information on joining.

Wednesday Night Bible Study on Jonah will be re-starting on Wednesday, June 10, at 6 p.m., again following CDC guidelines. Dr. Adam Dell will be repeating session one of the four-part series, since that was before the restrictions shut down services in March.

Reminders…

  • Ushers/greeters will be wearing masks and gloves, and will guide you to your seats.
  • There will be no greeting time.
  • There will be no passing of the offering plates. There will be a box at the back of the Sanctuary to deposit your offering as you leave the service or use the secure, online giving option through Cornerstone Payment Systems.
  • Please bring your personal Bible and writing instrument, or request one from an usher.
  • The number of musicians on stage will be limited.
  • There will be no childcare provided. The cry room is available for a parent with one or two infants.

Your church leadership has been struggling with the decisions regarding our re-opening. With over half of Americans saying it is too early to re-open, our approach has been very cautious, keeping the safety and health of our attenders at the forefront of our decisions. If you have a specific concern, please contact a member of church leadership.

Do you need to follow the Lord in believer’s baptism? This Sunday, we will be including a baptism as part of our morning worship service. If you want to be baptized on June 14, please leave your contact information and interest with the church office and interim pastors Tommy Thomas or Dr. Adam Dell will be contacting you.

Family Night and Special-Called Business Meeting has also been scheduled for Sunday, June 14, at 5 p.m. The covenant agreements with our two interim pastors expired on May 31. The Church Council is recommending extending the convenants at that meeting.

So how are you doing? It is important to remember that even though we are in this phase of social distancing that does not mean that we are socially disconnecting from one other. Distance cannot stop us from reaching out to one another and continuing to encourage and lift each other up during this time. We also want to remind you that if you are in need of anything or even if you have any prayer requests please let us know! We need plastic grocery bags!

Bags without holes/tears are needed by the Food Pantry to bag dry goods and produce and Feeding the Hungry to bag take-out meals. Please drop off at the church office or on Thursday mornings, 9 to 11:45, when the pantry is open.

Our Food Pantry distributes food baskets on Thursdays, from 9 to 11:45 a.m. There are no income restrictions, but you must reside in Show Low, Linden, Pinedale, Clay Springs, White Mountain Lakes, or the “Y” area of Vernon.

You are eligible for a full basket once per calendar month and can get bread and produce (when available) on other Thursdays. Bring a photo ID every time and verification of address (utility bill or government document) on your first visit.

Our Feeding the Hungry program switched to take-out only and has been averaging nearly 150 meals per week. Meals are served to anyone who is ­hungry on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5 to 6:30 p.m. If you would like to volunteer for this ministry, please contact Laurel Hostler.

Pastor Search Team: The Search Team has already been reviewing the 78 applications. Please keep the team in your prayers as we seek the man God has already called to be our full time pastor. [Team members: Michael Boucher, Laurel Hostler, Jodi Jones, Christina Kalat, Florabel Packard, Erick Rask and Everett Robinson]

We want to be seeking where God is moving and meet Him there! After prayerful discussion and seeking, the council has identified 4 priority areas of ministry to focus on during this time:

  • Sunday worship
  • Our food ministries
  • Supporting the Body and remaining connected with one another (through calls, social media, video chat, cards, etc.)
  • Looking for new avenues of outreach including how to potentially reach out to the healthcare professionals in our area with any support they may need.

As you can see, despite the weariness of this world and the bleakness that surrounds us, God is still good! He is still faithful! And we can meet Him where He and shine bright in our community! You can help by:

Praying! Pray for our workers as they continue ministering through the church; pray for each other; pray for our healthcare professionals who are on the front lines combating the spread of this virus; pray for our national, state and local leaders as they seek to protect the individuals and families under their responsibility.

Church family, you are loved and cherished and we look forward to the great celebration that will take place when we can be together again. In the meantime, we will leave you Paul’s words to the church in Ephesus – the words that we have been praying over First Baptist Church of Show Low as well:

“For this reason, I kneel before the Father, from whom every family in heaven and on earth derives its name. I pray that out of his glorious riches he may strengthen you with power through his Spirit in your inner being, so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith. And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, may have power, together with all the Lord’s holy people, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, and to know this love that surpasses knowledge—that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God. Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever and ever! Amen.”  – Ephesians 3: 14-21
