When you look at all the communities we've helped over the years, it's easy to see the impact of every water project. The change is profound. Clean water is the foundation that struggling communities build on to break the cycle of poverty, feed the hungry, and educate their children. But the benefits don't stop there... Clean water means clean hands, enabling proper hygiene and sanitation, including the use of latrines and toilets. Killer diseases are reduced and child mortality rates fall. Healthy students return to the classroom and go on to become productive members of their communities. Local economies improve and new businesses open. Opportunities are born. And that's what it's all about—opportunity. The Water Project isn't about simple charity, but rather an investment in development. Our global neighbors are ready to innovate and lead themselves out of poverty. We're just helping to remove a major obstacle from their path, so they can get back to bettering their own situation. Stimulates community growth now and in the future. Ensures the water source is well maintained long after the initial investment is made. When we begin a new project, The Water Project partners with communities and NGOs to identify the needs of each individual community. Together, the best safe water system for that particular area is selected. Community members take ownership of the project from day one through financial contributions and local management—empowering them to take responsibility for the development and maintenance of their water project.
